Where to Take Your Loved One During the Summer

Picking out a place to bring your loved one during Philadelphia’s brief summer is not easy, especially if your family member is a senior citizen or has mobility challenges. However, if you are creative, you will be able to find more than a couple of intriguing destinations that provide your family member with an opportunity to get out of the house while the weather is warm.  This is a golden opportunity to enjoy some social stimulation in a public setting either in downtown Philadelphia or on the city’s outskirts. Here is a quick look at a few ideas for places to go with your loved one this summer.

Go to the Beach

A trip to the beach will lift the spirit, give you and your loved one an opportunity to soak up the sun’s vitamin D, and provide an opportunity to exercise in the fresh air. The sound of the waves crashing at the beach will prove quite relaxing as you have a picnic in the sand, build a sandcastle or simply hang out with your loved one while reclining in beach chairs. Keep an eye on your surroundings and you just might spot some fellow Philadelphia seniors looking to form new friendships with other locals who enjoy spending time by the water.

A Public or Private Garden

If you have a garden at your home or if a family member has a garden, bring the senior in your life to the green space for a peaceful morning or afternoon. If your family member can still bend and reach, he or she can contribute to the garden. Some Philadelphia neighborhoods even have community gardens that everyone can participate in.

Head Outside for a Picnic

Take a drive over to a local park with your parent, grandparent, or other family member and have a picnic. Lay out some blankets along with sandwiches and beverages, breath in the fresh air, and soak up the sun’s rays while enjoying the day with your loved one. Lean back and observe the clouds after enjoying your lunch. Listen to some music, have a discussion, or play a card game and you will agree to get out of the house was worth the effort.

Shop at a Farmers’ Market

Everyone looks forward to shopping at local farmers’ markets in Philadelphia. Bring your senior citizen or other family members to such a market and he or she will have a blast searching through the local vegetables, fruits, and other delights. If your family member does not have mobility challenges, consider visiting additional markets including flea markets, craft fairs, booths, etc. to get the most out of your outdoor expeditions this summer.
